German-Russian Expedition to the area of Lena River Delta “LENA- 2013” R/V Dalnie Zelentsy in Tiksi

The international German-Russian expedition to the area of Lena River Delta onboard R/V Dalnie Zelentsy was performed in August-September, 2013. The purpose of joint German-Russian investigations was to collect advanced data on the environment in the area of Lena River Delta in the Laptev Sea. The vessel was delivered to the site of marine research operations from Murmansk.

The research project participants were: the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), State Institution the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of Roshydromet, St.Petersburg (AARI) and the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute (MMBI).

Our company rendered all necessary logistic support for expedition, including chartering the vessel for delivery of expedition equipment and materials to the work site, lease of motor transport, purchase and delivery of necessary supplies and equipment to the site of operations, organization of accommodation and meals for the expedition team. One of our staff representatives was permanently onboard R/V Dalnie Zelentsy, as Chief Coordinator. Two other company employees provided logistic support for expedition members in Tiksi at the stage of preparation and performance of expedition.

Despite all the problems connected with abnormal severe ice conditions on the route of navigation to the site of research operations and forced delay due to postponed flight from Yakutsk caused by local airline, the expedition research program was achieved and the expedition members satisfied with the results of the research work.

The research according to the program is planned to be continued in 2014-2015.
